S Shenington – Round 5 July 20th/21st
(SuperPrix and ‘E’ Plate)

We were just a tad short of that magic number once again for this year but we had another wonderful turn out numbers that we haven’t seen for quite a few years.  Many attended a very wet Fridays practice; however we were extremely lucky to have a dry weekend albeit cloudy. Ray Sloane our new novice was welcomed into the fold for his first race. To celebrate 60 years of class 4 an afternoon tea was held after our first heat on Saturday afternoon and we combined the Annual meeting of drivers to discuss any actions or ideas for 2020.

Heat 1 (Saturday)

with determiantion and over half a lap down it didn’t take him long to catch the back of the field and to eventually claim points for 13th!By lap 4 Woodward was right on the tail of L. Sifleet having demoted D. Bury to 5th . L. Sifleet had continual problems when negotiating  left hand corners as the engine would cut out. For 4 laps Sifleet and Woodward constantly swapped places with the  Stratford Hairpin being  a favourite place. On the last  lap Whyte in his attempt to make up a place had a coming together with L. Sifleet displacing their positions. This allowed Woodward to pull away slightly and claim 3rd. Green who had raced a steady race along with T. Bury who always had him in his sights unfortunately was awarded a 5 second penalty for jumping the start. Therefore T. Bury came home with the win.

1st T. Bury, 2nd Woodward, 3rd Callaghan (who’d not started well but progressed through the field and passed D. Bury on the last lap) 4th D. Bury, 5th Cox, 6th L. Sifleet, 7th Green, 8th Whyte, 9th Hancock, 10th Henry

Heat 2 (Sunday)

Masson was first to lead the pack for the first lap until Plain took over at the front to lead the field to the flag.

On lap 2 Whyte made a brave move to gain 3rd behind Masson and dived down the inside of both Callaghan and Woodward through the Chicane but unfortunately Woodward was side-lined in the manoeuvre, as Callaghan recovered Sifleet passed to claim 4th.  Callaghan collected his thoughts and on the next lap was sitting in 3rd place and would go onto repass Whyte two laps from the end. Laps 5- 6 saw Masson fending off D. Bury and Cox, who eventually passed on lap 7.

1st Plain, 2nd Callaghan, 3rd Sifleet, 4th D. Bury, 5th Cox, 6th Masson, 7th T. Bury, 8th Hancock, 9th Henry, 10th Green.

Heat 3

For the first time team Woodward hosted the front row and it was Woodward who left Perkins and Green standing. However the charging pair of L. Sifleet and Plain demoted him at Stratford hairpin. Stone realised it wasn’t a good idea to try and take a short cut through the Chicane but did recover. Plain took over at the front on lap 2 only to retire on lap 7 to hand the lead back to L. Sifleet. Lap 3 saw Callaghan pass Woodward around Wilkins to give chase to L. Sifleet.

1st L. Sifleet, 2nd Callaghan, 3rd Woodward, 4th D, Bury, 5th Green, 6th Whyte, 7th Cox, 8th Masson, 9th T. Bury, 10th Hancock
