Mixed weather greeted the fantastic grid of 210 drivers all raring to compete in round 4 and for the coveted ‘E’ plate at Shenington on July 19th and 20th. Camaraderie flowed as always as we welcomed Guest drivers Lee Plain, Tom Perkins and Aaron Sifleet to the lineup. These three would not be eligible for Challenge points!

Heat 1 was contested on Saturday afternoon. This race was forecast to be dry so with all donning slicks found themselves by lap 2 attempting to stay on the black stuff as the rain came down. D. Bury took the early lead for 4 laps followed by L. Sifleet, A. Sifleet and Plain. By lap 5 L. Sifleet had passed D. Bury to claim the lead over the start line and R. Perkins had passed Plain for 3rd around Café with the rest of the field very spread out. On lap 7 hassled by D. Bury, L. Sifleet spun exiting the straight. R. Perkins taking advantage shot into the lead.

1st R. Perkins, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Plain, 4th A. Sifleet, 5th L. Sifleet having recovered well and Stone who’d had a lonely race in 6th.

When it rained it rained!

L. Sifleet keeping D. Bury at bay.

Heat 2 Henry had a glimpse of the lead on a dry track as he headed a charging pack of Shepheard, Hopes, Plain, Caddick, Stone and the rest. By lap 3  Plain had taken charge with Sifleet, R. Perkins, D. Bury, Henry and Hopes now being in the top 6. On the next lap R. Perkins left the party, D. Bury was now in 3rd with a battle going on between Henry, Hopes and Stone. Lap 5 saw Caddick in the mix of the battle and had made it to 5th by the next lap. Lap 8 whilst Plain had long gone D. Bury was gaining on L. Sifleet in 2nd but would have to settle for 3rd himself. 1st Plain, 2nd Sifleet, 3rd D. Bury, 4th Stone who’d won the battle between Hopes 5th and Caddick 6th.

Heat 3 and although it wasn’t raining the track was still damp from an earlier downpour. Plain dominated the race once again from start to finish. R. Perkins fought off a chasing A. Sifleet and D. Bury. By lap 5 D. Bury was up to 3rd. The top 4 put a considerable distance between themselves and the rest of the pack headed by Hopes, T. Bury, Fowler, J. Perkins (N) and the rest. L. Sifleet who must have had some issues at the start and had been last on track had passed kart after kart to claim 5th.

1st Plain, 2nd R. Perkins, 3rd D. Bury 4th A. Sifleet, 5th L. Sifleet and 6th Hopes.
