Fulbeck Round 7 Sept 22nd

(Supa 60’s round 3)

Sorry to say we are back to the old style of race reporting as for some reason Alpha Timing /transponders were not picking up so the graphs are very difficult to read.  My Dictaphone came out in sympathy and it sounded like a cross between someone inhaling helium or a chipmunk on heat!!!!

Not many other classes had entered for the weekend so time and plenty of paddock space was definitely on our side, just a shame we couldn’t say that about the weather! Rolling starts were the order of the day with plenty of action to look forward too.

Heat 1

With a damp track Perkins took early command with Callaghan and L. Sifleet sniffing at his heels. By lap 2 Callaghan led, fending off an eager Sifleet. L. Sifleet took control around turn 6 and would successfully claim the win. By lap 4 Woodward was up to 3rd, not far behind saw Perkins attempting to stay in front of A. Sifleet and D. Bury. On lap 7 D. Bury had passed them both and on the following lap passed Woodward to claim 3rd. Disaster befell 2nd place Callaghan on the last lap and he was out leaving all behind to move up one position.

1st L. Sifleet, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Woodward, 4th Perkins,

5th A. Sifleet, 6th Green

Heat 2

It just started to rain again as T. Bury led the pack for nearly one lap, until L. Sifleet passed him just before the start line. Lap 2 saw D. Bury take the lead with L. Sifleet now 2nd, T. Bury 3rd, Green 4th, Perkins 5th, Fowler 6th. Lap 3 saw L. Sifleet return the favour on D. Bury to retake first position Bury certainly gave Sifleet a run for him money but these two remained in station to the flag. Lap 4 saw 4th place man Green side-lined at turn 2 due to a wet track. Lap 6 saw a drying track and Fowler having passed T. Bury to claim 3rd. began to disappear down the pecking order with a problem. Another Sifleet/Bury battle was being fought for 3rd place with T. Bury fending off a charging A. Sifleet. Those drivers who had succumbed to mechanical problems and going for a finish took time out to acknowledge their fans. Fowler waved to his beloved, Woodward gesticulated re his gear stick to his family and Perkins in his usual style gave me a wave and a grin. On the last lap A. Sifleet passed T. Bury to claim 3rd.

1st L. Sifleet, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd A. Sifleet, 4th T. Bury,

5th Whyte, 6th Hancock

Heat 3

On a dry track with the sun out Whyte made the best start. On the first lap A. Sifleet took up the lead just after the Bus Stop with Callaghan also making an attempt, he didn’t have to wait long and passed Sifleet around the top hairpin on the next lap. On lap 6 A. Sifleet was out, D. Bury and L. Sifleet passed Whyte to claim 2nd and 3rd. On lap 10 L. Sifleet passed D. Bury to take 2nd spot and to give chase to Callaghan who was now streets ahead and was beginning to lap places up to 8th. Fowler and Perkins were giving Whyte some serious hassle.

1st Callaghan, 2nd L. Sifleet, 3rd D. Bury, 4th Whyte

5th Fowler, 6th Perkins

Final

Do we? Don’t we? was all that could be heard from the pit lane as black clouds were looming in the distance. Such was the panic that T. Bury was seen to change his tyres on the dummy grid, but with one flaw in his execution! He mistook his kart for Woodward’s!!!By the time the race was underway it was raining and would get heavier as it progressed. However in the dry D. Bury made the best start to lead the field around the top hairpin closely followed although gingerly by L. Sifleet, Callaghan, A. Sifleet, Perkins and Fowler. On lap 2 Callaghan passed both D. Bury and L. Sifleet on entry and exit of the top hairpin. Perkins, Fowler and Woodward were extremely close and on lap 4 Fowler passed Perkins. Lap 5 saw Callaghan pulling out a good gap between himself and the warring pair of D. Bury and L. Sifleet; they were so close Sifleet had slight contact with his bumper. On the next lap it was raining  Woodward passed both Perkins and Fowler to claim 5th and on the following lap L. Sifleet made it up to 2nd place. Callaghan still led, L. Sifleet 2nd, D. Bury 3rd, A. Sifleet 4th, Woodward 5th and Fowler 6th. On lap 8 Callaghan who’d had a great race began to slow. L. Sifleet took over at the front thus promoting Bury and A. Sifleet.  The clouds were now emptying their contents with a vengeance, and Woodward spun in the bus stop but managed to recover whilst due to many a spin Whyte was up to 4th, Perkins 5th Woodward 6th.Henry 7th, Fowler now down in 8th. On the last lap D. Bury couldn’t believe his luck as L. Sifleet spun on Parc Ferme corner, luckily he held it all together to finish 2nd.

1st D. Bury, 2nd L. Sifleet, 3rd A. Sifleet, 4th Whyte,

5th Woodward, 6th Henry, 7th Fowler, 8th Hancock, 9th Masson, 10th Jarvis (N)
