Round 3 was sunny and almost too hot at times, but a glorious weekend it was. We had been joined  by the KZ’s and the 250’s to form a Gearbox Festival which has been long overdue. The grids were amazing and  Saturday’s practice saw the return of our Annual Bake Off to which all Gearbox drivers had been invited to take part (see page 2). Three 7min plus a lap and a 9 min plus a lap for the final with rolling starts was the order of the day.

Heat 1. Perkins led for the first six laps with Sifleet hot on his heels. Whilst Henry, Fowler, Callaghan D. Bury and Stone were having a tussle for 3rd place. On lap 4 Fowler attempting to pass Henry at the end of the Start Straight spun, D. Bury did his utmost in avoiding him and ended up in the kitty litter. Both were fortunate and got going again, Fowler losing just one place to Callaghan but D. Bury rejoined in 14th only one place ahead of where he’d started the race! Lap 6 saw Sifleet take over at the front Perkins was now 2nd and Callaghan passed Henry to claim 4th. Henry lost out to Fowler the lap after. 1st Sifleet, 2nd Perkins, 3rd Callaghan, 4th Fowler, 5th Henry, 6th Stone.

Heat 2. It was Callaghan’s turn to lead the pack until lap 3 when D. Bury passed him just before the Bus Stop. Both Perkins and Sifleet hung onto to their 3rd and 4th spot until the flag. The last lap saw Fowler passing Hopes and Henry to claim 5th. 1st D. Bury, 2nd Callaghan, 3rd Perkins, 4th Sifleet, 5th Fowler, and 6th Hopes having not raced at Fulbeck before.

Heat 3. The top three of Sifleet, D. Bury and Callaghan had pulled out quite a lead from the chasing pack and would remain in these positions. Fowler and Perkins diced for 4th position on lap 5 whilst Sloane drove a lonely race in 6th. 1st Sifleet, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Callaghan, 4th Perkins, 5th Fowler, 6th Sloane.

Final. It was Perkins who made the best start to lead from Sifleet, D. Bury, Henry, Fowler and Callahan and the rest. Disaster befell Perkins during lap 1 when his carburetor detached itself leaving him hurtling down the leader board and spending the rest of the race hugging it!!! On the same lap D. Bury snatched the lead. By lap 5 a big gap emerged between the fighting two at the front. Behind saw Henry, Fowler, Callaghan and Stone strongly contesting 3rd place. Lap 7 saw Callaghan claim 3rd and held tightly on to it. Midfield saw Masson and Hutton fight it out and a little further behind Hopes, T. Bury, Owen and Cox were at war. Novice  N. Caddick had had a great start and was up to 7th whist his father was documented on the result sheet to have completed a lap in 8.65 seconds!!!!

With 2 laps to go Stone, Henry and Fowler who’d been battling it out had clinched the positions they would score points for. 1st D. Bury, 2nd Sifleet, 3rd Callaghan, 4th Stone, 5th Fowler, 6th Henry, 7th N. Caddick (N) 8th Masson, 9th Hutton and Hopes completed the top ten.

Congratulations
Dan Bury.

Our Annual ‘Bake Off’ was a tremendous success making £300 for the Air Ambulance. It was heartwarming to see how many drivers took part. As you’ll see from the photos below considering they were out of their comfort zone they produced some wonderful entries. It’s become just as competitive as the racing!!
