Kimbolton started off the 2024 210 Challenge Short Circuit Challenge Championship season with a strong 18 on the starting grid. A most productive and enjoyable practice weekend had taken place at Fulbeck in early March and would be an event to think about including every year.
Chris Callaghan was welcomed back to the Challenge having not raced since 2019 and would prove he still had what it took to be up at the front.
Oli Shelley having spent most of 2023 attending practice sessions donned his black plates to swell the grid.
The weather remained good for the whole weekend therefore the new rain light ruling was placed back undercover, hopefully tempting infrequent usage during the rest of the year.

Heat 1. Callaghan made the best start from Hutton and Sloane and led the pack into Stow Corner. Lap 1 saw the closed up field chase after Callaghan who now had a comfortable lead. As they crossed the Start & Finish line in their attempt to make up places Fowler had a swerve delightful sending D. Bury into a spin narrowly avoiding Hutton, Hopes, Perkins and the rest of the pack. Lap 3 saw Callaghan nearly 5 seconds down the road whilst Sifleet passed Hopes for 2nd with Perkins not far behind. Callaghan held onto the lead until lap 8 when Sifleet made the best of a backmarker to pass on the inside at Stow, motoring on win the first race of the season from Callaghan 2nd, Perkins 3rd, D. Bury 4th Hopes 5th,Fowler 6th.

Heat 3.
Heat 3 started with a bit of confusion over when to go. Competitors had trouble in counting to 4. The start at HKRC begins with the showing of 4 red lights, when they go out then the race starts in earnest. However some of our beloved eager drivers saw the 4th light and were off leaving a few falling foul and ending up with 5 second penalties for jump starts!!!….. It was Sifleet who led the race into the first bend, with Perkins chasing hard behind, D. Bury 3rd. Lap 3 saw Perkins pass Sifleet. By lap 4 a furious battle was seen a little further back between Stone, Hopes, Masson, Callaghan and Fowler. Lap 5 and Sifleet retook the lead but not for long with Perkins back in front going into lap 6. Lap 8 saw Stone and Fowler fight for position. On the last lap Sifleet took the lead from Perkins as they tangled back markers.. Sifleet 1st, Perkins 2nd D. Bury 3rd Callaghan 4th, Hope 5th and Fowler 6th.
We had a fantastic commentator who did you and the Challenge all proud. We were welcomed with open arms and described as an asset to the meeting. Should we now be known as The Air-cooled Warriors? 😊
