Kimbolton Round 7 – Sept 9th

Rnd 3 Supa 60’s

What a brilliant turn out we had for the weekend, rumour has it next year the grid line up will be even bigger! A big thank you to Sian and Tina Masson, for taking control of the general housekeeping, until I arrived just as heat 2 was set to roll. 11 lap heats and a 14 lap final would be the order of the day. With more competitors on the track would the first corner be the place to spectate?

Heat 1

Plain took the lead from Whyte, D. Bury, T. Bury, Fowler and Green. W. Cox got familiar with the barrier at Stow Corner putting himself to the rear of the field.  By lap 4 a large gap had emerged between Plain and Whyte. Whyte also had a comfortable space between himself and D. Bury, who appeared to have a problem with gear selection, he was having a good scrap with Fowler in 4th, Green was up to 5th and Perkins now 6th. Lap 6 saw two great duelling pairs of T. Bury and Henry, Hancock and S. Cox, whilst brother W. Cox spent a little more time familiarising himself with said barrier once again. Try as they may the top six runners remained in position for the remainder of the heat.

1st Plain, 2nd Whyte, 3rd D. Bury, 4th Fowler, 5th Green, 6th Perkins

Heat 2

After a frantic start it was Green who took the early lead. By lap 2 Whyte had demoted him to 2nd, Plain was 3rd, W. Cox and D. Bury were scrapping for 4th and A. Woodward was 6th. During lap 2 both Plain and D. Bury had passed Green. At the start of lap 3   A. Woodward was close to passing Green along Hines Straight. Green closed the door causing Woodward to brake hard, one could say he gracefully reversed into the tyre wall, found the right gear and drove back out as if it had meant to happen!! As the following drivers took avoiding action Henry got caught up in the fray and found himself in the barrier at Stow. The top six now stood as Whyte, Plain, D. Bury, Green, Fowler and T. Bury. By lap 9 Woodward had made his way back to 6th and Fowler had passed Green to claim 4th.

1st Whyte, 2nd Plain, 3rd D. Bury, 4th Fowler, 5th Green, 6th Woodward

Heat 3

Another fast and furious start as Fowler got away first followed by D. Bury and T. Woodward. D. Bury passed Fowler on the exit of Stow on the following lap to lead the chasing pack of Fowler, Plain, W. Cox, A. Woodward and Whyte. Plain had snatched 2nd on lap 3 and then passed D. Bury to lead for the remaining 8 laps. Second place was claimed by Fowler on lap 5 when D. Bury seemed to be experiencing problems. By lap 7 Whyte was attempting to claim 2nd from Fowler this he briefly achieved on lap 9 then was seen to slow (but would finish in 6th) allowing Fowler back past. This promoted W. Cox to 3rd, S. Cox 4th and Williams (N) only his second meeting out 5th! Plain had once again extended his lead.

1st Plain, 2nd Fowler, 3rd W. Cox, 4th S. Cox, 5th Williams (N), 6th Whyte

Final

Pole sitter Plain did what he does best and shot off into the lead, Whyte and D. Bury were attempting to hold of a flying T. Bury. After completing 3 laps Plain was off once again into the distance. D. Bury was hassling Whyte for 2nd place and T. Bury was doing an excellent job of fending off Perkins 5th and W. Cox in 6th. Lap 6 saw D. Bury up to second, Whyte keeping his eye on his temperature gauge decided it was prudent to slow slightly in order to gain those all important points with a finish. W. Cox had managed to pass T. Bury and Perkins would follow through down Hines Straight at the beginning of the next lap. By lap 9 both W. Cox and Perkins had caught and passed Whyte, T. Bury was sat comfortably in 6th, further down the field Henry, S. Cox and Fowler were scrapping for 7th. On lap 10 it was all change Perkins was now up to 3rd, with the unfortunate demise of W. Cox; Whyte was 4th T. Bury 5th. S. Cox had won the battle against Fowler and Henry and was now lying in 6th. On the last lap Whyte decided the temp was ok to make a last minute pass on Perkins to claim 3rd spot. As the flag fell Plain once again came in victorious.

1st Plain, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Whyte, 4th Perkins, 5th T. Bury, 6th S. Cox, 7th Fowler, 8th Henry, 9th Hancock and Stone (N) 10th
