Round 6

There was a lot to play for at this years Midland Champs. Weather was good and we welcomed, Nathan Caddick, Shaun Stonier and Dan Rawden as Guest drivers for this event. A huge thank you to Janice Taylor for putting together this race report.

Heat 1:
Morris started on pole and took a lights to flag victory in Heat 1. Shelley started 2nd but dropped to 5th at the end of lap1 with Bury and Stone slotting into 2nd and 3rd respectively. By lap 4 Morris had built a strong lead with Bury and Stone swapping places for 2nd and 3rd and Henry and Shelley for 4t and 5th. At the flag it was Morris 1st with Bury taking 2nd from Stone on the line followed by Henry and Shelley taking 5th and Fowler 6th.

Heat 2:
A depleted grid showed up for Heat 2. Henry took the lead and held it for the first 3 laps. Bury (2) had a great first lap coming from near the back to slot into 2nd with Morris slotting into 3rd. By lap 3 Morris took the lead and stayed there for the remainder of the laps with Henry, Bury and Stone following him to the flag. 1st Morris, 2nd Henry, 3rd Bury, 4th Stone, 5th Shelley, 6th Fowler.

Heat 3:
Heat 3 saw Bury, Caddick and Rawden getting a great start from the 3rd row with Rawden taking the lead. Over the next 2 laps Rawden and Caddick had dropped down the field however Morris, after starting near the back, wasn’t hanging around and took the lead on lap 3 with Bury, Stone and Henry following. With Morris way out in front, Bury was pulling a gap to Henry. Stone was clearly in trouble but managed to keep running to take 7th at the flag. Finishing order was 1st Morris, 2nd Bury, 3rd Henry, 4th Fowler, 5th Shelley, 6th Caddick.

Final:
After winning all 3 heats Morris took pole with Bury P2, Henry P3. Stone and Shelley closed out the 2nd row followed by Fowler, Caddick and Newman on row 3. Taylor was 9th but elected to run from the back. Rawden closed out the top 10 grid positions. At the start Morris dropped to 3rd, Henry to 6th while Bury and Stone making up places to 1st and 2nd respectively. Further down the grid Caddick had a good first lap crossing the line in 4th from a 7th place grid slot. By lap 3 Morris had come through from 3rd and took the lead from Bury with a pass on the outside down the back straight and proceeded to pull away on each lap. Bury was looking safe in 2nd while Henry and Stone were fighting for position Henry eventually passed Stone down the back straight to take 3rd on lap 5.
