The Superprix saw our biggest grid since 2010 of 21 which was fantastic to see. It was lovely to see Bill Shelley, John Hutton and Shane Cox swell our ranks with the addition of guest driver Lee Plain who was there to contest the ‘E’ plate that brother Luke won in 2021. The Superprix is one event that enables us to promote ourselves further and with our stunning flags and T. Shirts and a very large group photo, we certainly achieved that. The final was filmed with Mick Owen and Shane Cox appearing in the Pit Walk Interview. It was to be a very hot weekend which took its toll on some engines and drivers.

Heat 1 took place on a warm Saturday afternoon. A Sifleet took the lead with D. Bury and L. Sifleet snapping at his heels. Lap 2 saw L. Sifleet up to 2nd . By lap 5 A. Sifleet had put some distance between himself and the following pack of L. Sifleet, Plain, and D. Bury with Plain and Perkins joining the fray. However two laps later a flying Plain took over at the front having started the race from a back row position! This left L. Sifleet, Perkins, now up to 4th and D. Bury to fight for 3rd place. Perkins won this battle to claim overall 3rd.

Heat 2, and the weather was already warm! A.Sifleet was allowed a glimpse at the front for half a lap until Plain took over at the front romping home with a 9 second lead. Perkins who’d been doing well in 3rd slipped down the pecking order with mechanical issues. A. Sifleet continued to maintain his 2nd spot until lap 7 when his Father L. Sifleet snatched it away. By lap 10 back markers came heavily into play and D. Bury had made it up to 3rd. In 5th and 6th were Fowler and Henry who put on a display of close racing.

Heat 3 saw Plain 1st and L. Sifleet 2nd, making the best starts and would retain these positions to the flag. In 3rd was A. Sifleet being chased by a dueling pair of D. Bury and Perkins all vying for 3rd place. Fowler was in 5th being hunted down by Henry and Stone. By lap 9 Perkins and D.Bury still dueling had demoted A.Sifleet to 5th. Fowler was out leaving Henry and Stone to battle it out. Stone won the toss of the coin and took Henry on lap 10.

Temperatures for the final soared to the highest for the weekend! Undeterred the grid lined up for the final with Plain, L. Sifleet and D. Bury hosting the front row. The early leader was L. Sifleet from Plain, D. Bury, Perkins and A. Sifleet. Plain then took control of the race on the first lap down the Back Straight. By lap 4 Plain and L. Sifleet had extended quite a big lead from the battling trio of D. Bury, A. Sifleet and Perkins who appeared stuck together like glue, this fight went on to last a further 7 laps. All caught on film. Henry raced alone in 6th after the demise of Fowler on lap 5. Behind them a scrap between Hancock and Stone was well worth of a watch. By lap 9 with the top two of Plain and L. Sifleet separated by 7 seconds, Perkins had got passed A. Sifleet to claim 4th. T. Bury had joined the fray between Hancock and Stone and separated the two to claim 8th. A last lap attempt from Perkins to pass D. Bury to claim 3rd could have worked if he hadn’t missed a gear allowing D. Bury to pass him back.
Plain came in victorious, 2nd L. Sifleet, who now heads the Challenge leader board, 3rd D. Bury, 4th Perkins, 5th A. Sifleet, 6th Henry, 7th Hancock, 8th T. Bury, 9th Stone, Sloane completed the top ten.

Congratulations Lee Plain 2022 ‘E’ Plate title holder.
