Considering a few of our drivers had fallen victim to circumstances beyond their control we had a decent turn out for round two at Kimbolton on June 11th. It turned out to be a very hot meeting, which led to overheating of engines and drivers!! Heats were 7 minutes plus a lap and the final was reduced from 9 minutes plus a lap down to 7.
Heat 1. Henry and Sloane got off the line first, but before they had reached Stow Corner Masson adeptly shot between them both to take the briefest of leads in history as the race was deemed a false start. On the second start Henry led again only to find his demon starts were getting pointless as again the race was deemed a false start. Third time lucky and Henry now proficient with his starts led the race for the first lap. Lap 2 saw Sifleet take the lead now from T. Bury, Perkins and Rawden. Sifleet led for 5 laps and was then seen to slip down the field with a broken gear change. Perkins took over at the front, Rawden having passed T. Bury was 2nd. N. Hancock in 4th, try as he might just couldn’t pass T. Bury to claim 3rd.and finished 0.00.10 behind. 1st Perkins, 2nd Rawden, 3rd T. Bury, 4th N. Hancock, 5th Henry, 6th Sloane.

After another restart it was Perkins who had the best start from Stone, N. Hancock, T. Bury, Sifleet and the rest for heat 2. By lap 3 Sifleet was up to 2nd to give chase to Perkins. Perkins held onto the lead for 8 until he succumbed to Sifleets advances around Stow Corner. Stone maintained a steady 3rd throughout the race. Fowler who’d previously passed Rawden and T. Bury spent 6 laps attempting to demote N. Hancock to 5th to no avail. 1st Sifleet, 2nd Perkins, 3rd Stone, 4th N. Hancock, 5th Fowler, 6th Sloane.
Sifleet led heat 3 from start to finish. Perkins and Rawden fought over 2nd place for the first 3 laps with Perkins just having the edge. Fowler hassled Stone for most of the race and made a successful pass on lap 8, Stone wasn’t giving in that easily and fought back and only just missed out on 4th spot by 0.00.35. Midfield saw some great action between Shepheard, Hancock, T. Bury and Henry. Shepheard with new power to his elbow was having a fantastic race, leaving the three behind to fight it out for 6 laps. Henry managed to slip passed on lap 7 with T. Bury following him through on lap 8. 1st Sifleet, 2nd Perkins, 3rd Rawden, 4th Fowler, 5th Stone, 6th Henry.

The Final – Sifleet and Perkins hosted the front row, with T. Bury and Stone on the second row. Sifleet got off the line well but Perkins laboured slightly allowing Stone to pass and claim 2nd place. Lap 2 Sifleet led and Perkins was up to 2nd having passed Stone, N. Hancock 4th, Henry 5th and Fowler 6th. Lap 5 saw Sifleet pull out a considerable lead but Perkins was making some inroads, Fowler had passed N. Hancock to claim 4th, whilst T. Bury had demoted Henry to 7th. The order for the front 5 positions remained the same to the flag although Fowler had his sights on Stone. On the last lap Henry sneaked passed T. Bury to claim 6th.
1st Sifleet, 2nd Perkins, 3rd Stone 4th Fowler, 5th N.
Hancock, 6th Henry, 7th T. Bury, 8th Shepheard, 9th Shelley and T. Hancock (N) completed the top 10.
Unfortunately after post-race scrutineering Perkins was excluded from the final due to a broken bumper!!
