The weekend of September 23rd/24th saw the Challenge family not only arrive at Fulbeck with their racing equipment but with their homemade bakers confectionary items for ‘The 210 Challenge Bake Off’. Momentarily they swapped their helmets for chefs hats and these wonderful looking cakes etc were judged during Saturdays practice, then sold, raising £155 for the Lincoln and Notts air ambulance.
Well done to all.

Heat 1 saw Henry lead the 18 strong grid for the first lap until Perkins passed him out of the top corner at turn one. By lap 4 Sifleet was up to 2nd but would take a further 6 laps to catch and pass Perkins to claim the lead. Henry motored on to take the 3rd spot whilst both D. Bury and Fowler having started at the rear of the field took the 4th and 5th spot. With Stone completed the top 6. 1st Sifleet, 2nd Perkins, 3rd Henry, 4th D. Bury, 5th Fowler, 6th Stone.

Heat 2 and Sifleet led from start to finish. Rawden did a good job at keeping a hard chasing D. Bury and Perkins all three showing some very close racing. On lap 6 D. Bury passed Rawden by the Grandstand with Perkins following through a little later at the top corner. Henry and Fowler and T. Bury were battling for 5th. Fowler was seen to slow on the last lap handing T. Bury 6th spot. Henry got a wrap on the knuckles for passing under a yellow, not once but twice!!! Therefore succumbing to a 10 second penalty. 1st Sifleet, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Perkins, 4th Rawden, 5th T. Bury 6th Stonier.

Heat 3 saw the Battenburg flag displayed as at least 4 drivers tangled on entering the top corner on the first lap. This aided quite a few who exited the corner safely and were able to make up places during the carnage. Stone led for a lap until D. Bury took over at the front followed by Sifleet. Stone held onto 3rd although Henry wasn’t too far behind. On lap 5 Sifleet managed to pass D. Bury who was not going to let Sifleet out of his sight. D. Bury passed Sifleet back on lap 9 but was unable to hold on to the lead and Sifleet once again scored top marks. 1st Sifleet, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Stone, 4th Henry, 5th Perkins who had worked his way up from the back after the clash on lap 1. 6th T. Bury

The Final. Perkins made the best start to lead the pack, he was very closely followed by Sifleet D. Bury, Henry and Stone. On lap 3 Sifleet thought he saw his opportunity to pass Perkins at the top corner, alas he didn’t, and his overtaking move landed him in the kitty litter, however he did manage to get out and rejoin the race just in front of Perkins, therefore avoiding being a lap down. Henry and Stone were battling and by lap 6 Rawden (who’d been unable to take up his grid slot) had joined the battle. These three were definitely the ones to watch, back markers didn’t know what had hit them as these three were stuck together like glue. Rawden sat and watched as Henry and Stone swapped places several times, the bus stop and top corner seemingly being the places to pass. On lap 8 Stone passed Henry and would make it stick. On the next lap Rawden looked as if he overcooked it a little and ran into the rear of Henry through the bus stop but did get past him. In true sportsmanship Rawden deemed it not a fair move and waved Henry passed. As the flag dropped Perkins came in victorious breaking the curse he’s always had at Fulbeck, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd Stone, 4th Henry, 5th Rawden, 6th Fowler, 7th Sifleet (having ploughed his way through the field, 8th Hancock, 9th T. Bury with Stonier completing the top ten. D. Bury was first home on a Piston Port.

This year seems to have raced by as we look forward to our last round at Shenington Kart Club on October 15th. Anything can happen and it usually does!!!!
