Rissington Round 5 – July 15th/16th

Shenington – 210 ‘E’Plate and SuperPrix

The challenge fraternity arrived in best bib and tucker (well cleaner race suits anyway) for their appearance in the annual filming of this event. It was going to be another very hot weekend with one heat on the Saturday and two heats and the final on the Sunday.

Heat 1

Perkins initially led the pack for heat one until W. Cox passed him across the start line to take over at the front. Perkins did have another glimpse at the lead but by lap 4 D. Bury had demoted him to 3rd to give chase to W. Cox. Fowler lay in 4th, Plain 5th and Whyte 6th. Lap 6 saw D. Bury pass W. Cox over the start line for first place whilst Plain had made his way through the field to claim 3rd , unfortunately this was brief as he succumbed to problems on the next lap thus promoting Fowler, Whyte, Woodward  and S. Cox who completed the top six. Perkins was slowly slipping down the pecking order. On lap 7 Fowler who’d begun the race at the rear of the grid was on a roll and was up to 2nd having snatched 3rd place from W. Cox and by the last lap had taken the lead. The last lap also saw Woodward pass Whyte for 4th place.

1st Fowler, 2nd D. Bury, 3rd W. Cox, 4th Woodward, 5th Whyte, 6th S. Cox

Heat 2

Green took advantage of his front row position and diced with Plain for the first few laps to lead the pack. Fowler watched on from 3rd, Whyte 4th Perkins 5th and D. Bury 6th. By lap 3 D. Bury was up to 5th. Green held onto the lead for a further 2 laps until Plain passed him into the chicane. Green suffering some mechanical gremlins would slip a little further down the field. Whyte was now up to 3rd, D. Bury 4th, having passed Perkins 5th and W. Cox 6th Lap 6 saw Whyte up into second place to give chase to Plain who’d extended his lead by quite a margin. Perkins and D. Bury were fighting it out and Perkins claimed 3rd position and made it stick on the last lap.

1st Plain, 2nd Whyte, 3rd Perkins, 4th D. Bury, 5th W. Cox, 6th Green

Heat 3

Bury made the best start closely followed by Fowler, Perkins, S. Cox, T. Bury, W. Cox and the rest. First lap action saw Fowler pass D. Bury along Stratford only to spin on the next lap at Café as D. Bury claimed the lead back, thus putting himself to the rear of the field. Plain was now up to 3rd, W. Cox 4th, S. Cox 5th and Green 6th. On the same lap Plain took over at the front passing D. Bury at the Stratford Hairpin, not too far along Perkins also passed D. Bury to give chase to Plain who had as we have come to see shot of into the distance. W. Cox remained in 4th Green was now up to 5th S. Cox 6th. Whyte joined the top 6 on lap 5 for 2 laps until Fowler who had clawed his way back through the field took up 6th spot. Although D. Bury, W. Cox and Green were bumper to bumper for the duration of the race each held a very good line not allowing any crafty passes.

1st Plain, 2nd Perkins, 3rd D. Bury, 4th W. Cox, 5th Green, 6th Fowler.
